How to build a TV lift cabinet
Instructables has a great step-by-step how-to on building your own custom TV lift, which hides the TV when not in use. It does require a ~$500 kit and an old 6-drawer dresser that will become otherwise inoperable, but the end result looks pretty cool and lets you hide a TV completely from a room when not in use.
Custom built versions can often cost thousands, so this is a pretty economical way to build one yourself for much less.

No offense but why would you want to in this instance - the dresser is MUCH tackier looking than the TV.

Yeah, it's kind of an ugly dresser, but I'm sure other people have nicer old furniture around that could make it work.
Personally, I hate the way a big TV (even thin ones) dominate a space and would love to be able to make a lift that could make it disappear completely.

Hello everyone. This is Cory from Nexus 21 TV Lift Systems. Sorry about the post that was made by Heather on June 10, 2008. It is not our habit to post self-promoting messages on our competitors' marketing materials.
p.s. I do want to clear one thing up from the post by RangeRovers. Nexus 21 has no lifts that are even close to the price of 4K. Our lifts cost just over a quarter of that price, and this is low for what the product actually is. Thanks and best regards to all.

Nexus21 the price of your lifts are to high. I can get the cabinet with lift system installed for the price of just your lifts. I found an resonable lift system called vector motion. Check there web site out, vectormotion.com

I spoke to Cory about a year ago when I was researching TV Lifts and his product is one of the best, particularly for the price. If you price out the parts (Actuators, motors, RF remote device, etc), you'll find that his prices are reasonable and besides, isn't someone in business entitled to make a profit? I built my own lift and incorporated a remote swivel as well. It works great and is very quiet. I changed any metal gears to nylon and built an insulated fiberglass shell over the motor.
