Engadget and the TiVoCommunity recently broke news that it was possible to use the eSATA slot on Series 3 TiVos, letting you easily upgrade to more storage space. The TiVoCommunity has a great, detailed FAQ on the process that highlights everything you'd ever want to know about the process.
If anyone has tried the eSATA upgrade, let us know how it worked for you, and any drawbacks?

Following instructions, the upgrade was a breeze. Only drawback ... the sound of the external drive in our quiet family room while shows are being recorded/deleted. I would suggest shielding it with foam and placing behind furniture.

Just attached a 750GB Seagate FreeAgentPro ($240 at Frys) to my S3, HD hours went from 32 to 134. All's working fine. The full install took maybe 5 minutes. Worked just as the Engadget instructions said it would. Retained all my programing and programs.
