TiVo launches TiVoCasting
TiVo announced 'TiVoCasting' today which looks just like their existing Video Podcasting efforts but with a few content partners and a shiny new name. I guess the word "podcast" was too much of an homage to Apple so TiVo decided to try and make up a new word with their own branding.
It's cool to hear they have Cnet, NYT, and Rocketboom video downloads lined up -- I watch a lot of those small grainy videos and I'd much rather see them on the living room couch instead of a laptop or home office monitor. It'll really get interesting when TiVo eventually broadcasts content exclusively to customers. I'd love to see independent movies, unaired niche sporting events, or even popular lists from YouTube show up on a TiVo.

Series 3 were are you!

I, for one, applaud the name. "Pod"casting is a horrible, horrible term.

This is incredibly lame relative to potential features we should be seeing. Something like this would have been nice TWO YEARS AGO.
Real content, not this silly stuff. Movies, folks. People want MOVIES. For the love of God, why don't we have this yet?!

Given that Movielink, a dedicated box that costs more than a Tivo is only getting so-so reviews, I'd guess there are some technical hurdles still to be vaulted.
How about a button on YouTube or Yahoo Videos (given that Tivo already has a partnership there) that would "Send this video to my Tivo"?

Its a good start, but they need more content. Structuring deals individually isn't good enough. More deals with companies like Brightcove are needed. The Web is about access to any content, not just the content that TiVo thinks you would like.

So basically Tivo is tapping into the world of Video On Demand. Just Like I am getting from On Demand from Comcast. My Tivo Passed away last April :(, And I got other DVR from Comcast. Sure its this DVR from Comcast does not Preform like my good old Tivo. But Later this summer comcast will be testing and then later this year they will be rolling out Tivo brand DVR service. So than I could subscribe to this service to get back the Familiar Tivo DVR Features and Functionality.

They're still only taking mainstream media from well-known sources, with the exception of Rocketboom. The game will get more interesting when they make it possible to get anybody's videoblog on your Tivo.

I'll second What Deidre said - The Tivo Podcaster already has the functionality to add any URL, This Tivocasting will only be breakthrough when that happens.
Any idea as to the planned roll out date for this? Seems like series 2 has the capabilities.
