Last day for TiVo lifetime plan signups
Engadget noticed that today is the last day for TiVo lifetime plan signups. If you wanted to keep that new standard def, standalone TiVo around for a while (maybe something to throw in a second bedroom a few years down the road when your primary TiVo is HD), today is your last chance.
Update: Dave Zatz has a great roundup of all the pricing plans, and a bit more info on the ending of the Lifetime Service option.

Actually, yesterday was the last day to *purchase* units that qualify for Lifetime Service. Boxes purchased before today can subscribe to Lifetime Service by calling customer service by 4/15.

This is my first post ever to this site, so forgive me if I "sound" new. I just got my second Tivo just in time for this announcement. It's an absolute shame that Tivo is doing away with the lifetime subscription. In my own opinion, I believe this was a truly fatal move for Tivo. With mail-in rebates, the Tivo boxes were pretty cheap, paying an extra $7/month for service is hardly fair ... especially to new customers. Even most cell phone companies have "introductory offers." If Tivo wants to gain more subscribers, they should be reducing the costs of the boxes and the service - they'll make up the difference in volume.

Hmmmmm.... Another nail in the TiVo coffin. Looks like TiVos' helping me in my decision to build my own PVR.

Hey I'm new too, and I just bought Beyond TV 4 for my PC, every feature that TIVO has plus more things that go along with PC and guess what?...All under 160 bucks! ONE TIME FEE! No monthly fees. TiVo's dead already. YIPEEE FOR BEYOND TV!
