Exclusive pics of TiVo Download

Engadget has the full story along with: pics of TiVo Download, featuring preview shows of IFC's new fall season. Sounds like a good test bed to try the service out on. Downloading a 30 minute show shouldn't be too bad, but I'm curious what the quality of playback looks like. If it's full TiVo mpeg quality, those files could be mighty large and take several hours to fetch.

*sigh* Someone else who apparently doesn't understand that NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT means. Yeah, it is keen and all to see what is coming, but it bugs me that people ignore NDAs all the time these days.

Especially when it breeds the kinds of stupid comments several people have made at Engadget. You see a couple of screenshots and that's enough to conclude you know what the who service will be like? *sigh*

Ask TiVo to negotiate with BBC Worldwide to offer an exclusive "sneak peak" at the new *Doctor Who* scifi series. Since all the American networks have so far passed up on the series, it would be great for TiVo to negotiate for the rights to be the first to legally exhibit the series in America... And if people successfully strip the DRM from the episodes through the TiVo-2-Go feature, its no biggie since the episodes are already floating illegally on the net anyways.

The added benefit to this is if it is successful, TiVo will have successfully bypassed the traditional Hollywood content distribution model and opens a potential revenue stream up by offering to show pilots of shows (for a price) that weren't picked up by the networks during the annual pilot season to TiVo's subscriber base to generate buzz.

*Doctor Who* downloaded via TiVo certainly would rock harder than *Greg the Bunny*.

Ah, so this would be early beta screenshots Megazone? Hopefully they can figure out the user that took the photos and broke the NDA.

I agree most of the comments at Engadget were dumb. I think this is the start of something great, though I sincerely wish TiVo would come up with a way to play other compressed formats like xvid, so that the show downloads weren't too large.

Scoop (since someone let the cat out of the bag):

It's 3 whole shows and one full hour, and the shows are friggin hysterical - though i am biased. In fact, you can see the whole episode of Greg The Bunny - the new Greg, not what's already out on dvd - at:

And the whole first episode of "Hopeless Pictures" (including Jennifer Cooldige doing v/o for R-rated animated intercourse) at:

I signed up for the TiVo beta too... and the other day my software finally installed itself. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but I have seen the option that is shown in the screen shots. There are other misc. enhancements throughout - like being able to turn off PC applications, new style of displaying what channels you have etc... Oh, something else I thought was interesting, is that it also has an option now of letting me choose my screen ratio.

Lastly - it appears this update finally returns the usability of my DirecTV box with the low-speed data cable that a recent DTV update had broken. Now all I need is for it to work with OS X 10.4 (Tiger).

Speaking of breaking NDA's...Evan, I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to be posting that on a public forum. Hopefully that's not your real name and PVRblog isn't in the habit of passing IP information on to interested parties...

Seriously... you are ruining it for the rest of us. After this lovely little leak, TiVo may decide not to do open betas anymore.

TiVo is Great! i can't wait for TiVo Download.

I don't know about you guys, but I never signed up for any beta or agreed to any NDA yet my TiVo has the update. So I am uploading my personal pictures to my .Mac account currnetly. I don't think I am ruining it since I never agreed to anything/ did not ask for the update. (not that I am not enjoying it)

P.S. It works fine.

Who cares if someone decided to tell about the new product. What are you tivo asskissers complaing about. It wouldn't surprise me if this blog was another tivo tool who felt like they had to be tivocops to pass along IPs. Maybe these people are just making crap up. How do you people know?

Who gives a shit what they say? What do you care? You whiners are just pissed you didn't get into an open beta. Deal with it.
