TivoTool released for OS X

ItunestivoTivoTool is a pretty cool new app for managing your TiVo video on the network through a nice OS X GUI application. There aren't a lot of TiVo tools for macs so this is a nice new development.

It's not for the faint of heart -- it does require some fairly sophisticated hacks to be running on your TiVo in order to download and stream video unencrypted, but if you've gone that far with your TiVo, this app gives you a nice TiVoToGo-like interface on a mac (there is also a command-line version that works with both mac and linux).

Check out the screenshots of it in action. The integration with iTunes is very impressive stuff and being able to transcode video or send it to iMovie is an added plus. Hopefully when TiVo releases an official TTG mac client, their app approaches the usefulness of this package, allowing users to save and view video directly in iTunes (and transfer video to future video ipods).

You think TiVo's ever going to release an official TTG Mac client? Ha!

If TiVo was smart they'd just buy this program and hire the programmer.

WHEN TiVo releases an official TiVoToGo Mac client? It's been six months and they still haven't offered any statement other than that they're "working hard" on it. Oh, and they don't seem to care that TiVo Desktop for Mac is incompatible with Tiger. And how many years has it been since they said they'd bring support for AAC?

None of you would be complaining if you would have been smart enough to have purchased a ReplayTV instead of a TiVo. I've been able to transport shows to my mac since the first day I owned a ReplayTV without any hacks or hard labor. Oh well... live and learn, I guess. It still makes little sense to me why TiVo is so much more popular than ReplayTV considering the connectivity and buffering differences.

Well Eddie... you can buy a Tivo for 99 bucks.
and to config a Tivo is much easier for the technically challenged

i think that just bout sums it up.

Do the hacks required (link here: http://homepage.mac.com/steventamm/tivo.html) for TivoTool work with the current 540 Series 2 models? Or do you still have to do the PROM hack on the 540's?

Still too complicated for me. I'm not knocking the technical achievement here, it's pretty amazing we've gotten this far and the fact it has iTunes integration is boss! Still, I'm just looking for the solution that doesn't require me to drop a new HD into a PC box (that I DON'T HAVE) and type command line stuff to enable it. My main concern is saving off things I have stored now, which still won't happen with this hack. You would think TiVo would look at the fervent hacking efforts going on and rethink their Mac support... obviously people WANT it.
