TiVo ToGo going mobile

There were vague stories last week about TiVo and chipmakers coming to agreements regarding TiVo ToGo, and it seems that's now bearing fruit. Today TiVo ToGo gains Windows Mobile support.

For now that's a delivery on the promises of what TiVo showed at CES early this year but the cool thing about Windows Mobile is that eventually TTG will also work in various PDAs and cellphones with the Windows Mobile operating system. There are several smart phones out in the US market, and plenty of PocketPCs out there, so hopefully a device compatibility list is revealed soon that includes the major brands. [thanks for the tip, Jon!]

I believe this has worked since they released version 2.1 of the desktop. At least for me, it has... I was able to move TTG content to my Audiovox SMT-5600 a month ago. (Not that the screen is actually large enough to WATCH what I moved.) Regardless, it's good to see them getting the word out.

Is it just me, or has this new feature been poorly documentd by TiVO? The press seems to report that this is live now. SO how to I legitimately get my shows from the TiVo Desktop to my SMT5600?

I completely agree - it's been poorly documented. I got it to work by:

1. Installing version 2.1 of the TiVo desktop.
2. Opening Windows Media Player 10, and selecting the Tivo file i wanted to transfer
3. Plugging in the phone via USB.
4. Selecting sync.

The process too all night becuase I had WMP convert the file into a size that would better fit the screen. The whole file then transferred to the phone in a matter of minutes.

Maybe that whole TiVo/Intel partnership will simplify this process.

What is most shocking about the
objections is that TiVo ToGo is an already crippled version of something

I'm still bummed that TiVo isn't developing more for the Mac. I love my TiVo, don't get me wrong, but I'd love it even more, if I could share the fun with my iMac. I'd love it if they brought TiVo to Go to OSX.
