I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but I can't reach news.yahoo.com. So here is what appears to be the same article hosted via PCworld's own website.

I caught the article via the PCWorld AvantGo channel this morning. Unfortunately, many of the so-called tips include just plain inaccurate information, especially regarding which tweaks work with which versions of the TiVo software. The only thing worse than no information is misinformation.

Ok...so it's been a while since this article was posted, but AJ...you are right on. The bad information is worse...maybe neophytes shouldn't write articles!

Does anyone know if it is possible to connect a DVD player to the Tivo. The manual says that you can only connect a DVD recorder NOT a DVD player. My TV only has one input (coax) and my DVD player will only output through the RCA cables. I used to run my DVD player throught my VCR but I no longer use the VCR. The Tivo has mutiple inputs so I was hoping there was a way to hack this option.

Yes. You can connect the DVD player to the RCA inputs on the Tivo then run the guided setup and select both Cable and Satellite. This will give you a ton of "new channels." Disable all but one of them and the DVD player should play through that channel. However I'm having trouble recording DVDs to my Tivo. All the "Satellite" Channels say that "The Copyright holder has protected this channel." Anyone know how to get past that?
