TiVo Now Playing dashboard widget for OS X Tiger
The new version of OS X from Apple includes Dashboard, a sort of API using simple web scripting to build widgets you can manipulate on your desktop. There are hundreds of them available already to do all sorts of things, but one noteworthy new dashboard widget is the TiVo Now Playing widget.
It works with standalone TiVos with the 7.1 OS and TiVo Desktop, showing you what's available on your TiVo in real-time. It also looks pretty cool.

i know i'm missing the boat somewhere, but i'm confused.
tivo desktop doesn't work under tiger, yet you have to have it running for this widget to work?

It requires a TiVo Desktop *enabled* TiVo to work.

Would be nice if it also support TiVoWeb for those who can't run Tivo 7.x ie DTivo's running 4.x...
I will look at the widget and see if I can revers engineer/patch to work with TiVoWeb if I get the time.

On that point, has anybody heard word from TiVo on whether they are planning on updating Desktop to work under Tiger? Given their recent comments regarding the Mac I think it unlikely, but I already miss streaming my tunes into my bedroom over TiVo.

Tom,
I'm the Widget's Author, if I can get a sample XML file and how to get the file I should be able to add support for it... email me the info and I'll look into it. jazzflute/at/gmail/dot/com Thanks.

It doesn't always load consistently. But it is really cool.

John -- what kind of sample XML do you need for testing?

Someone has got a 1.0 TiVo widget on the apple site. Is this the same developer?

I have my IP and media access entered, but it just sits on "connecting to your TiVo". Any suggestions?

i can't find the media access key anywhere - i have a pioneer TIVO DVD recorder. what am i missing?

I can never get this lovely little widget to work...
I've got the Humax DVD Recorder Tivo -- and I can't for the life of me figure out if this widget is compatible or I just screwed up the settings. Any thoughts?

I'm in the same boat as rudy. I too have the Humax DVD Recorder Tivo -- and I can't for the life of me figure out if this widget is compatible or I just screwed up the settings.

The Humax DVD recorders, from what I can tell, don't runt he correct version of the TiVo software required to store and utilize the Media Access Key. There's no listing of it anywhere within mine, even though my other Series 2 has it. I need to verify the software versions, but I'm fairly certain that is going to be the case. I can get this widget to work with the Series 2 but not the Humax and that seems to be the glaring omission.

hi. your widget worked perfectly. It even grouped shows of the same title into folders. very nice. If you can do this, can you make something that allows us to download or viewd those shows on the mac? Otherwise, although the widget it neat, it is pretty pointless. I have a feeling you could get it done faster than TiVo, who has not made TiVo-to-Go available for macs yet.

Works Great....
AFTER upgrading my Pioneer to v7.2.9x, I supplied the widget with the Media Access Key and IP, I was able to view what was on the Tivo - now, when will the Widget (or Tivo), provide a Mac transfer applet?

What a great looking and working widget! On the www. dashboardwidgets.com site, this widget says that the new feature of 1.5.1 is that it now has "-Added show Transfer Icon" Where? And how can I get my video's transfered to my G5?
Thanks for this widget, it's quite nice!

My MAK number is 10 digits and the dashboard will only take 9 digits. What do I do?

Hey, I noticed that a lot of the comments on the widget are "It's great, but could you change it"... I just wanted to let the author know that on my Intel MacBook, the widget works great. It also made no difference if I was using a Series 2 or 3 TiVo.
