American Idol sends TiVos into a tailspin, etc

I woke up today to find big schedule bending messages about American Idol, caused by a screwup in the live show on Tuesday that caused them to scrap the Wednesday night show. If you follow the show, be sure to double check your TiVo or just use this link to record tonight's special episode.

In other news, I've tweaked the layout to accomodate some advertisers that wanted to jump on board. Be sure to force a refresh to get the new stylesheet if the site's layout looks weird.

For those of us who don't follow, what was the screwup?

They botched the call-in voting phone numbers on screen after the contestants sang. Three of the singers had the number of someone else in the list, so if folks called in to vote for them, they accidentally voted for the others.

So they called it a wash and asked for a revote last night, with results tonight. Fox had to even bump a new show to do it, so they had to alert everyone's TiVos about the big change.

I bet it kills their ratings. They had pretty much no competition last night (ANOTHER Lost rerun), but tonight they go head to head with four NCAA Tournament games.

I can not believe no one checks the numbers. How could this happen. Anyway I watch and love the show, but I will never vote again. When Rubin and Clay were head to head I called and called and called and never got through. It felt like they new who they wanted to win. Everyone in Texas I spoke with could not get through. Hummmmm....I guess that is why Rubin won. Don't get me wrong I voted for both up until the end. I love them both. I just thought Clay was an "American Idol" more than Rubin. Don't get me wrong I love him too. Oh, well this was long ago now. But me and mine will never vote again. I believe it is rigged and you know who is gone and who is not. But I enjoy the show. Thanks!

My tivo seemed to catch what it need in time... but i'm more upset, that the guide data for the cartoon network star wars clone wars cartoon was wrong. It incorrectly listed Friday as chapter 24 (the same as thursday's episode) and even though i have "record reruns and first run" set it failed to pvr that episode =(

Luckily the day after CN was running a mini-marathon of all that weeks episode sequentially... but it's dissapointing when you begin to trust a piece of technology so much when it fails you occaisionally.
