« CinemaNow to offer NBC shows for download | Main | The PTVnet DirecTiVo upgrade drive review »
Jason Levine recently got the TiVo ToGo update and proceeded to try out the free trial of the Sonic MyDVD burning application. When the trial was up and he was ready to purchase the full version, he did a little poking around the TiVo Community boards, just in case there were any drawbacks to the software. Eventually he found the software had installed an anti-piracy package silently that couldn't be removed, and there no mention of it anywhere on Sonic's site. If you're considering upgrading to the full version, you might want to follow through on Jason's story first.

I'm waiting for some lawsuit's over this type of BS. Silently installing software that will impact and negatively effect somebodies system without warning is just a civil suite away from being news.

Every installer "silently" installs hundreds of files. Should the publisher disclose every third party package they install? Or is it just that since this smells like DRM, everyone's getting excited?
It looks like PACE has given Jason instructions for uninstalling their software, even if Sonic didn't.
Maybe we should hold off on the lawsuit drum till he actually follows the instructions...
Best,

A nice program but not too good for EVERYONE.....Sonic 5.0 is only for MATROX graphic cards,SONIC 3.0 is only for DVD of 65 minutes.......Very bad....

I want to make sure I've got this right before I commit some serious cash to this.
My goal is to leverage the wireless network already in my home. I'd like to get my DirecTivo Series 2 unit onto the network. I'd like to be able to see and play the shows on the DirecTivo unit from my laptop (which will be on the wireless network as well). I'd like to be able to burn those shows onto a DVD burner to keep since I'm filling up the drive and I have to delete stuff.
The question I have is will PTVUpgrade plus Sonic MyDVD allow me to do that?

I also have a big problem with that suck sonic product.i download the dvdit pro 6.0 try version from the net and i try to used it as a normal software.i realized that after installing the sonic dvdit pro 6.0, my dvd driver is totally gone. it wont let me to burn any audio and video file on dvd.It give me error. But sometime it wont give any error and burn successfully. But i cant play that dvd on any machine. The video file in dvd r corrupted. I dont know why ...?? I also figure out there is a pace-piracy software install alone with DVDit pro 6.0. All these happened cuz of That anti-piracy software ??? Is there any way to remove it ?

dowmload dvd shrink 3.17 or 3.16 from download.com and use it to remove the copyprotection and save it to an ISO or hard drive folder then burn that with any dvd burning capable drive and software like nero or something! ONLY RECOMENDED FOR PERSONALLY OWNED DVD'S!!!

I bought a Dell 5150 with DVD burner and DVD ROM. I could burn a CD or DVD but it would only play on the DVD burner drive. Not even on the other drive on same computer, 2 different computers or DVD player. Talked to Dell help and they advised me to try Nero software. Downloaded trial version last night and burned both CD and DVD and tried with all other drives, computers and players and it worked fine. Seems like the Sonic software might be the problem. Can't be sure until I've tried it more.

Konstantine,
I've seen you now on at least two different forums defending this software (with verbatim messages, too). Why am I starting to think that you work for this company?
