TiVo 7.1 rollouts

My friend Jason just got the new TiVo 7.1 upgrade and posted images. Funny thing is that all images tagged with "tivo" at Flickr show someone else got their upgrade recently as well. Perhaps TiVo is rolling them out in earnest now? If you have a series 2 tivo and haven't gotten it yet, you might want to force the daily call, that's how Jason got his update.

People shouldn't force calls, it just slows the servers down. Basically there is a list of TSNs authorized for the download. As TSNs get their downloads they're removed and more are added. If your TSN is on the list, you get it, otherwise you don't. If you force a call and get it, you would've gotten it on the next normal call anyway. :-)

Note the new release of JavaHMO (2.3 beta 1) which has native TTG support too. I knew it wouldn't be long before 3rd party support showed up.

Oh - and the Sonic software seems to be out: http://estore.sonic.com/upgrades/tivo/mydvd61_special.asp?lang=enu&rd=21549&MailID=mydvd6tivo01150503&MID=

Question... My husband (I could murder him) said he was prompted about a week ago to download an update and refused it (he didn't want to quit watching the TV; is that grounds for a legal divorce?) Anyway, it apparently asked him twice within 30 minutes and I haven't seen a thing about it since. Other than strangling him, is there something I can do? Thanks!

I've had mine for about a month. I signed up for the Priority List. Unfortunately, they did it on the Tivo I had longer rather than the new one that is MINE as opposed to the rest of the family's. So I'm still waiting for the second Tivo. I'm guessing they went through the Priority list and picked a handful.

You TiVo people crack me up. Waiting weeks for a download? That's funny. What is this, 1997?

I also received my update yesterday. At one point I thought I could get it to work in VirtualPC, but that is just so painfully slow I've given up hope. So I basically just took a spot in the priority line to spite PC users.

I can tell some slight changes in the UI. Nothing mindblowing though.

Does anyone know if you need a particular minimum "level" of Sonic MyDVD (plain, deluxe, or deluxe suite) in order to use the TiVoToGo recording capabilities? I'll most likely be buying it, so I want to make sure that I don't end up with the wrong one...

(And MegaZone, so long as you don't force more than one daily call every now and then, you're not doing anything to hurt the TiVo servers. So long as the daily call is successful, TiVo resets your next-call-date info to another day-plus into the future...)

I was sitting there watching it and I had spent the day playing with the camera on the Treo 650 so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to meld them both. And you can read below what I did to meld them even more after the update began working.

Kim, don't worry about that one. You have to stop watching to get the video updates for the stuff like the clips that it keeps on the star ads. It records those on a cable infomercial that TiVo buys. The dial-in updates can happen while you are watching. All he did was save you from having some of the ads on your HD.

Kim - You husband just cancelled what would be a Service Data Download. Which is showcase, promo data, etc. It wouldn't be the 7.1 update, no reason to divorce him - at least for this. :-)

Jason - Yes, now and then isn't a big deal. But there are people claiming to be forcing many calls a day, trying to get TTG faster. That's just making it take *longer*. (Maybe TiVo should be nasty and anyone who does that goes to the end of the list - I'd do it if I were them, but I'm a BOFH...)

Just got my TTG update yesterday... haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Does anyone know if the Media Access Key and TiVo desktop software are an absolute requirement? I already have Nero Media Home server running and would like to minimize the number of desktop server apps running.
