A sleepy DISH Network receiver
My friend Meg has posted about her problems with a DISH Network receiver, where after four hours of inactivity, it puts itself to sleep and her TiVo can't record anything. I know having an external TiVo hooked up to another DVR may be a rare use case, but it is a weird issue and Dish techs have told her non-DVR versions do the same thing to conserve energy and wear and tear, even though a TiVo needs 24/7 access to the stream. Anyone that has ever experienced it or found a way around it is encouraged to leave a comment on her site.

this is a well known problem, and the solution is in the forums on tivocommunity.com

What kind of idiot would have tivo with dish anyway?

Somewhat harsh, but I do agree in principal with dishman.

dishman, while your post is old, incase someone else has similar thoughts, that is some serious 2 dimensional thinking on your part. Perhaps it is someone who happens to like tivo's interface better. Is that a crime? Perhaps it is someone who has paid for a lifetime subscription and doesn't want it to go to waste. Would you scrap your Tivo in that case? I'm left wondering who is really the idiot.

Why don't you just disable the timeout function on the receiver?

Close minded "idiot" comment. I am not an idiot. I bought Tivo svc about 2 years ago then about 1 year ago I moved to an area with no reception and no cable service. So I ended up with Dish Network and Tivo still on contract. The Tivo with Dish Network works really well except the timeout issue. Besides it beats leaving the Tivo in the box doing nothing. I also have the Dish DVR on another TV. It works OK but Tivo is so much better.
