After weeks and weeks of waiting, today my free tivo branded iPod arrived, courtesy of the TiVo Rewards program. Mostly it was a few friends upgrading their old boxes that saw this post, but lately a few random strangers have also signed up and referred me so I'm getting close to another free iPod or a free TiVo for one more.

I guess here's as good of a place to ask as any: what is tivo's real long-term outlook look like? I love mine. It's great. But I'm a geek and have a certain tolerance for doing things a little differently. We are thinking of getting my sister-in-law a tivo for Christmas, but I am worried that we will get it for her, Comcast or whoever will sell her on a Cable DVR or worse, TiVo will go belly up within the first year. I'm not trolling, I swear. I hope TiVo lives a long happy life (they've made my life happier for sure), but how much of the gloom and doom you see on the net is speculation and how much has some truth to it? -p-

Now if only TiVos could upload programming to and play programming from iPod. There'd be a great brick-and-mortar business model right there-- selling (or renting!) pre-recorded content to iPod/TiVo owners, if it were done securely.

This is my first post stumbled across this site on a google search, since i am probably going to be getting a tivo next week ill refer you tivo@anfmanusa.com, couple questions though. how do i reffer you? and do i have to buy the tivo from tivo.com to be able to reffer or is it like a registration card online fill in the blank type thing. also how many refferls does it take to get a free pod, i got one allready but i would love a ipod photo. Im a long time apple fanatic and im hopeing to get the same quality ease of use and fuzzy feeling from my tivo as i do from my mac. I know this is an extramily long post but one more thing, what do u guys think of that humax tivo/DVD-R, its expensive but is it worth buying for my first tivo or am i better off with the $99 tivo? humax?
