A few people emailed me earlier today to mention they saw this site mentioned on a financial show, talking about Google's adsense and blogs, and showing screenshots of the site on TV. If anyone happened to TiVo it (ha!), and can get a rip to me, I'll be forever in your debt.

I just stumbled on this blog. I do a lot of research on DVRs and have been frustrated by the use of PVR instead of DVR. Back in 1999 it was more common to see PVR than DVR, becuase TiVo used PVR and Replay used DVR, and TiVo was the brand to beat.
I even got questioned when my 2001 programming strategies textbook used DVR instead of PVR. Over the years I noted that the initials got nearly equal use and then the tide turned in 2003 and ever since it seems PVR is used less and less.
Lo and behold, TiVo now no longer uses the term PVR on its website. Apparently the tide has completely turned, which begs the question: When will this blog change its name?

The PVR / DVR acronym is a bit of a dilemna. I believe DVR is also used for security systems which complicated matters early on, but it does look like DVR is becoming more standard.
BTW, it looks like someone else registered DVRBlog.com so Matt may be out of luck.

I actually wanted to call this dvrblog.com way back when I started, and I did some searches at dotster for both pvrblog and dvrblog.
And the real story of how this came to be called PVRblog was that I accidentally bought the pvrblog.com domain instead of the dvrblog.com domain that I wanted. I was too lazy/cheap to just buy the other domain so I changed my photoshop mockups to reflect the new name.

Well,
DVR is very literally Digital Video Recorder... I like to think of my TiVo (and my homebrew PVR/HTPC) as being more than just a digital VCR.
Sure a TiVo is digital and does record video, but I'd argue that it's "personal-ity" and hence is a PVR that makes it what it is and the devote following it has.
I wonder if anyone calls their Mac a "PC"? Technically it is a "Personal Computer" but call it that in a Mac forum and zip up the flame suit =)
To be honest, I dont' care if it's DVR or PVR, wish we'd just settle on one...

re:rampy's question
It would be just a within fair use as them taking screen shots of the website... And now we point the camcorder at the video monitor as we gaze into infinity.
