TiVo Rewards program launches.

tivo-cardAbout four years late, TiVo has launched a new rewards program. So far TiVo has relied on users as evangelists, but it looks like they've finally taken a lesson from Amazon.com and instituted a program to encourage folks to insert affiliate codes for free prizes.

I just signed up and it appears they're doing everything they can to keep the program from becoming an affiliate marketing spam hell that many other programs are. There's no cash involved for prizes and they don't provide HTML snippets of code that could someday show up on zillions of link-farmed search engine spam sites. You simply plop someone's email (like mine, at matt@haughey.com) into the signup process, and I collect points.

Looks like a nice simple system, a lot like Vonage's, but hopefully without all the Vonage spam sites lingering behind every Google search for Vonage [thanks George].

It's nice to see that TiVo is trying to do everthing possible to keep their product alive. Lately all we've seen from TiVo is bad news. Hopefully this will help them stay a float.

Arrgh! I've run out of people that I know to refer!

If I buy a second PVR, can I refer myself?!

I plopped you in - thanks Matt :)

This is a blatant and cheap request to find 3 people to use me as their referral when signing up for Tivo service. I'm hankerin' for an iPod so I can feel worthy again. My Sears Tele-video system isn't the shizznit it used to be.

Of course, Matt gets first dibs! I'm just looking for a few Tivo table scraps.

I think that Tivo has done a great thing by putting up this incentive program... It would be nice if they had other items to give out.. like flat screen tv's, or even ask for branding on the items it's offering.. wouldn't it be awesome to see a ipod that instead of seeing the apple logo on the start up.. see the tivo icon. I just got my second box and sadly I can't refer myself for the points. But I still got the tivo box for under $100.00 and that is awesome for a 80dvr. The sad thing is that you can't refer the people that you refered years ago. Like all of my friends who have tivo. I think that getting up to the 20,000 mark would be awesome but not something I see myself doing.. By the time I actually get there I'm sure tivo will stop offering cool stuff. the coasters might be in the 20,000 mark by then. Ya never know. Matt... had I known about you're email address before hand I would have added you're email address to my activation. but hey.. if you get tired of people adding you.. they can always add me if they like... chrisluton@gmail.com

Ok, I'm way late to the Tivo bandwagon. Just got the Humax 80 hr w/DVD recorder in Dec 05 and love it. I've got 2 friends already via the rewards, and sure would like to get one of those IPods. Please contact me if you have any ?'s about the Humax, happy to answer. Please use my email when activating your new Tivo - tpullis (at] yahoo

After looking at this for a while, I do have to say that this is a lame reward program. It is basically a referral program; when I think reward, I think loyalty/retention program.
