TiVo $50 off, new 140 hr units
c|net has news of TiVo repeating their $50 rebate offer and also unveiling new 140hr units. It's interesting to see TiVo cutting into the crowded upgrade market by offering a TiVo with significant storage. It's a bummer they stuck below the 137Gb limit imposed by the operating system (I'm assuming it's a 120Gb drive reporting the lowest quality recording time).
It'll be interesting to see if this move by TiVo reduces sales for companies like weaknees and ptvupgrade.

It saves them from having to beta the new OS on the existing units for now. But at CES they announced Humax was planning to make a 250 hour S2 standalone - that could be a single drive, or two drives. If it is single it would mean an upgrade.
The Pioneers already run with the new kernel with LBA48, people have been sticking 300GB drives in them. The new HD DTiVo will have it as well, of course, for the 250GB drive.
The existing units will probably get an upgrade at some point but there probably isn't any major commercial force to do it. If the 140 hour units sell well, and as drive prices continue to drop, then they'd have a reason to look at 160GB and up.
