Home Media Option on series 2 DirecTiVo

Everyone that owns a series 2 regular TiVo raves about the Home Media Option, and every series 2 DirecTiVo owner curses under their breath while DirecTV sits on their hands and doesn't release an update or support for HMO in their new units (a lot of owners want group sorting and usb-to-ethernet support as well in the new OS).

There are rumors that eventually DirecTV will add HMO capability and a few enterprising hackers have figure out ways of lighting up a series 2 DirecTiVo's USB ports, but someone simply tried restoring an existing standalone TiVo with HMO image to a new DirecTiVo and claims that 4.0 features work flawlessly (they can't figure out how to "purchase" the HMO though). While many were skeptical, but folks on the TiVo Community boards have also reported that it worked (thread since deleted).

Hopefully DirecTV will come to their senses soon and turn on the $99 feature so many people are clammoring for and light up those USB ports that have gone silent for the past year or so.

hi. with the hmo or not, is there a way to connect an external dvd recorder to the tivo? thanks

Yes

What about the "my dvd" fearure that came with my Memorex Burner in the Bundle? is that useless now since I have a DirecTV DVR Tivo 2 (Hughes Box)?

Thanks

Gee then why do they even have the usb ports if they don't support Tivo?

I have a Hughes HDVR2 running software version 3.1.1d. Where & how can I get ver 4 software and how do I activate the HMO? How do I connect to an external DVD recorder? Thanks.

There are several copies floating around on eDonkey 2000 File Sharing Network.

Someone help. I am no computer genious but the guy at Direct TV phone support said you guys could help me hack my Hughes direct tv DVR (model sd-dvr80) to get the USB ports to work. Can anyone help??

Is it possible to hack a Hughes DVR w/ Tivo so that I could use its receiver for received HDTV signals off the air without subscribing to DirecTV? And would it be possible to record over the air HDTV to the integrated Tivo without subscribing to Tivo monthly service? I actually want to just output this to a regular analog TV. But am hoping to get a clearer signal. But I've been told the Hughes won't work without subscribing to DirecTV. Thanks.

Direct TV will open it up as soon as they can figure out how to get money out of the service.

Direc tv tivos with HMO 6.2 have been available for months Just need to look outside traditional sources. Do a Ebay search for "tivo hmo 6.2" or "DSR7000 HMO 6.2" and u will find some already hacked and ready to go.. I got 4 of them all networked together, Pause a show in the livingrooma dn continue where I left off in the bedroom, I also have one as a server, I just transfer my shows to a 600gb direc tv tivo and watch ofer 700 movies anytime I want.. Its sweet. and I can burn to dvd..
