Connecting your TiVo Series 2 via Wi-Fi Review

Although I had good luck with my linksys wireless adapter and my TiVo, This review describes the hell one owner went through trying to find other supporting wireless products (apparently the Netgear MA101 did the trick). [via gizmodo]

Had he gone with the suggested WiFi unit (the Linksys) he'd have been fine. Tivo recommended it, so why not use it? I also have Zone Alarm and I had no problems. I think he was too impatient to order a Linksys (although he could have had one overnighted to him).

I have a directv-tivo series 2 and it doesnt even have a phone and network settings page, it just has phone. I cant find any internet resource to tell me why. I'm glad to see someone else having problems lol. Please email me and tell me why I'm an idiot.

Ben, the USB ports (and hence, the networking) is not enabled on the series 2 Directivo devices. I heard rumors that the home media option and USB networking were coming this fall (finally) to Diretivo devices.

The Series2 TIVOs won't show the phone and network settings page unless it recognizes the network adapter. If it does not recognize it, only the phone settings will be shown, at least according to the TIVO support guy I spoke with yesterday.

Right, the tivo won't show the networking options unless it recognizes your nic. I had this problem with the linksys v2.8 and finally resolved it by getting the microsoft wireless card mn-510 and it is working great. The linksys has to be v2.6 to work but I don't think that this version is around anymore.

No no no...per the tivo website, you have to upgrade to software version 4.0 for usb to be recognized. I'm in the middle of the download right now.

I own a TiVo Series2 (not DirecTV version and I have a few basic networking questions:
1) Do I have to pay TIVO for the home network option to use the USB port to send shows to my computer for recording to DVD?
2) If not how do I do this?

I just bought a Linksys USB adapter. It did not say the version on the box but it was the only kind available in the store. Turns out it is V3.0. I have already downloaded the 4.01a tivo software in hopes that it would work, but it doesn't. Anyone know if or when TiVo will upgrade their software to work with this adapter?

TiVo now recommends using linksys' wusb12, rather than the wusb11 that is shown in the picture linked above. Does anybody have experience with this model? I know I'm coming late into the discussion, so pardon me if I'm rehashing ground already covered.

you need to do this to get the WUSB11 v2.8 or v3.0 working.
