TiVo upgrading with a mac
The vast majority of TiVo upgrade guides require the use of PC, and there are scant resources and programs for the mac, even though OS X is now a BSD based operating system (meaning most basic linux tools work in BSD as well). Over on the TiVo underground, member A@ron asked for help and got little in response. He eventually found software and figured it out, and posted a full guide to TiVo upgrading using a mac as a result.

Yeah I find it strange as well that there are likely lots of folks on other BSD-based or Linux-based systems messing with their TiVos but there are few if any Mac OS X specific guides out there written so you can hack your TiVo from your PowerBook or Power Mac. Good posting Matt, and a great blog site.

Please note that MacTiVoBlesser does not work with all TiVos. For more information, please visit the official/authorized MacTiVoBlesser web page here: http://www.weaknees.com/mactivo.php

Major progress has been made that now makes it easier than ever to upgrade your tivo using Mac OS X. In fact, I would go as far as saying it' easier to do on a mac than on a PC. For more information you can visit http://www.mactivo.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28

For those who are still looking, I've done a write up on my site on how to uprgade your Tivo with an intel based Mac(MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Pro, etc):
http://www.wingedpower.com/blog/wwong/upgrading-tivo-your-macbook-pro-intel-and-vmware-s-fusion
General site, if the above URL gets broken:

The solution is to use VMware Fusion. It even got picked up by VMware's Team Fusion blog.
Check it out.
