Charter planning Uber PVR

The cable company Charter Communications is planning to offer a PVR to customers that has some incredible features. Dual tuner (so it can work with multiple TVs), recording, DVD player included, HDTV capable, ethernet networking, plus home media options for music and photos. Sounds like everything possible aside from DVD recording of TV.

I'm moving in a month, and the cable company where I'm moving offers a digital video recorder as part of their digital cable/phone/cable internet packages. Here's my question: is there any reason to get a Tivo instead? I'm sure there must be some reason...

I've heard ok things about the Time Warner DVRs, and they are usually offered at a lower cost than using a TiVo or something else. I guess you have to weigh the costs of an aftermarket recorder and its usability/functionality vs. the ease of getting one from the cable company, which usually has less functionality than more mature products.

That said, this Charter Communications machine sounds like it does it all, but then I guess it all comes down to how easy it will be to use.

The Digeo website has a lot of good information on the service/hardware.

I have Charter cable TV, and i was wondering if it is possible to get and use a TiVo with Charter Communications.

Great question Margaret. I have used my Tivo with Charter cable for the past year. It was GREAT! But....I only had Epanded Basic which did not require a cable box. I recently upgraded to digital cable and now I am trying to get it to work. I have spent hours trying to use S video input, the coaxle input, and the all others. I can not figure it out. When I bypass Tivo...it works great. Help...what am I missing? I am running the cable to my cable box, then to my Tivo, and then to my TV. I have tried eveything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ha. Compared to the beloved DishDVR the Charter HDPVR sucks, and makes you jump through hoops to even view channels!

Charter could provide the best products in the world and it wouldn't make their customer service any better. I signed a 6 month contract with them on the bases that the promotional prices was renewable at the end of 6 months. When I went to renew, they refused to give me a promotional rate until I told them to disconnect service. Then they said I would get promotional rate for the next month and I my plans would occure back to back so I would not be billed a higher rate. That was what a supervisor told me. Two months later I get a call from a collection agency saying I owed charter about $59 after I have payed my $19.99 plan non-stop since the beginning of my first contract. I call charter back to find out what happened. A supervisor once again told me it was an error on their part and they would fix it. At this time I'm fed up with their customer service and have desided to go with AT&T DSL instead. So yesterday when I called to cancel my service, they told me my account was closed in January and they were immediatly turning off my internet service. I've payed them something like $59 since then. $19.99 each month and a $21 something bill because they kept saying I owed them that amount. They said I would be getting a $21 refund after I've payed them $59 over.

My advise to any one looking to get service with them is to avoid them like the plague. They can not resolve internal issues. In the end, they take it out on the customer.
